LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) won the javelin to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day two of the W&L Carnival on Saturday.
Dericks won the event with a toss of 55.90m (183'5.00"). The Generals also had three in the Top 5 in the shot put. Senior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) was third at 13.74m (45'1.00"), first-year Jay Roberts (Whitwell, Tenn./McCallie) took fourth at 13.71m (44'11.75") and first-year Andrew Creel (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) claimed fifth with a throw of 13.70m (44'11.50").
Sophomore Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.32. He was also third in the 400m hurdles (55.90). In the pole vault, first-year Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) was second with a leap of 4.25m (13'11.25"), and Pranka finished fifth at 3.65m (11'11.75").
The 4x100m relay took second with a time of 42.87. The quartet consisted of first-years Jimmie Johnson (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) and Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy), sophomore Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) and senior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School).
The Blue and White had two runners in the Top 5 in the 100m, 200m and 400m. In the 100m, Fiore was fourth (11.23) and Johnson finished fifth in 11.43. Fiore claimed third in the 200m with a time of 22.62, while Jones placed fourth (22.68). Jones was second in the 400m in 49.74, and Huffman was fourth (50.28).
The Generals return to action next Saturday at the Jack Toms Invitational hosted by Lynchburg.
