LEXINGTON, Va. — Senior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) set a new meet and school record in the 10,000m to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day one of the W&L Carnival on Friday.
Strehler took the top spot in the race with a time of 30:50.22, crushing his previous school record of 31:50.52 set at last year's ODAC Championship. The time also broke the previous meet record of 30:51.98.
First-year Trey Lewis (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) won the high jump with a leap of 1.94m (6'4.25"). Senior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) tied for third in the event with a leap of 1.84m (6'0.50"). The 4x400m relay took the top spot with a time of 3:21.96. The foursome consisted of first-years Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy) and Jimmie Johnson (Hoover, Ala./Hoover), sophomore Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) and senior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School).
In the 1,500m, sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) recorded a personal-best time of 3:57.22 to finish second. Junior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) was third in 3:59.23.
The Generals had two of the Top 4 competitors in the discus. Junior Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) placed second (he was the top collegiate finisher) with a toss of 43.63m (143'2.00"), and senior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) claimed fourth at 38.80m (127'3.75"). Robertson also took second in the hammer throw at 48.37m (158'8.50").
The second day of the W&L Carnival begins on Saturday at 11:00 am.
