W&L Men's Track and Field 4x800m Relay Breaks School Record

LYNCHBURG, Va. — On day one of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Friday, the Washington and Lee men's track and field team's 4x800m relay broke a school record that had stood since 1984.

The quartet of seniors Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) and Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) and junior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) crossed the finish line in 8:04.39 to place third. The time bested the previous school record (8:15.24) by over 10 seconds, which was set on February 28, 1984.

The 4x800m relay was the only event the Generals participated in on day one of the meet. The rest of the team will compete on Saturday for day two of the invitational, starting at 9:30 am.
