SALEM, Va. — Senior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) and junior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) each won an event, as the Washington and Lee men's track and field team opened the 2016-17 season on Saturday at the Roanoke Invitational.
Leroy claimed first in the 3,000m with a time of 8:40.11. Senior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) was second in the event (8:44.74), and Strehler took third in 8:57.32. Senior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) placed fifth in the race with a time of 9:07.31.
Strehler won the 5,000m in 15:11.37, and Harmon was three spots behind him in fourth (15:30.01). In the 800m, senior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) was second with a time of 2:02.69. First-year Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy) took second in the 400m in 51.37.
Senior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) placed in the Top 5 in two events. He was fourth in the shot put at 13.17m (43'2.50"), and claimed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.10m (42'11.75").
In the pole vault, first-year Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) finished second with a leap of 4.05m (13'03.50"), while sophomore Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) was fifth at 3.60m (11'9.75"). Senior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) claimed fourth in the high jump at 1.85m (6'00.75").
The Generals will take the rest of December off, and next compete on January 14 at the University of North Carolina.
