W&L Men's Track and Field Finishes Third at ODAC Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team finished third out of nine teams at the Outdoor ODAC Championship on Saturday at Lynchburg.

Junior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) led the Generals on Saturday by winning the 1,500m. The team totaled 127 points, which was 61 more points than in 2015. Bridgewater claimed the team title with 182 points and Lynchburg was second (170).

The Blue and White had four athletes in the Top 8 of the 1,500m. McDonald won the event in an ODAC meet record time of 3:56.27. The previous record was 3:56.91 held by Luke Sohl of Bridgewater. Sophomore MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) finished fifth in 3:59.69, senior Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) was seventh (4:03.24) and first-year Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) claimed eighth (4:05.98).

McDonald also finished eighth in the 800m (1:59.08), and junior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) was fifth in the event in 1:56.71.

Junior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) set a new personal best in taking second in the 400m with a time of 48.84. First-year Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) also registered a personal best, while taking fifth in 49.70. Jones finished sixth in the 200m in 22.67.

First-year Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) scored in three events. He was third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.24, fourth in the 110m hurdles (16.26) and fifth in the pole vault at 3.67m (12'0.50"). Junior Rob Jones (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy) claimed second in the pole vault at 3.97m (13'0.25"). Junior Harrison DeKnight (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was eighth in the triple jump at 12.49m (40'11.75").

Junior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) placed fourth in the 5,000m (15:26.99), after taking second in the 10,000m on Friday. Sophomore Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) took third in the javelin with a throw of 46.63m (153'0.00"). Dericks was fourth in the discus at 41.55m (136'4.00"). Following his win in the hammer throw on day one, junior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) was fifth in the discus at 40.47m (132'9.50").

The 4x400m relay took fifth with a time of 3:26.68. The quartet consisted of first-year Albert Del Cristo (Clarksburg, N.J./Notre Dame), Huffman, senior Charlie Zachariades (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Jack Jones. The 4x100m relay finished seventh in 43.98. The foursome consisted of sophomore Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg), Huffman, Jack Jones and Turner.

The Top 3 competitors in each event earned All-ODAC accolades. The Generals will send a select group of athletes to the Liberty Twilight on May 4.
