Strehler Breaks W&L 10,000m Record on Day One of ODAC Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Juniors Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) paced the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day one of the Outdoor ODAC Championship hosted by Lynchburg on Friday.

Robertson won the hammer throw and finished second in the shot put. Strehler finished second in the 10,000m, while breaking the W&L record.

The Generals are currently third with 40 points. Bridgewater is in first (60 points) and Lynchburg sits in second (55 points).

Robertson defended his title in the hammer throw with a collegiate-best toss of 48.75m (159'11.50"). His mark in the shot put was 14.01m (45'11.75").

Strehler crossed the finish line in 31:50.32 in the 10,000m. It broke the W&L record of 31:59.60 set by Charles Edwards in 1992. The Top 3 competitors in the 10,000m bested the previous ODAC meet record, but Lynchburg's Andrew Osborne just clipped Strehler with a time of 31:49.56 to win the event.

Junior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) claimed second in the high jump at 1.86m (6'1.25"), while junior Harrison DeKnight (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) finished sixth with a leap of 1.81m (5'11.25"). Turner also claimed seventh in the long jump at 6.18m (20'3.50"). Sophomore Ben Murphy (Clarksville, Md./Glenelg) took eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:12.83.

The Blue and White had five more athletes advance to Saturday's finals. In the 400m, senior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) crossed the finish line in 49.22 and first-year Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) qualified in 50.25.

Jones also advanced in the 200m with a personal best time of 22.57. First-year Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) qualified in the 110m hurdles (15.80) and the 400m hurdles (56.76).

The Top 3 finishers in each event earn All-ODAC accolades. The ODAC Championship concludes on Saturday, with field events starting at 10:00 am and track events beginning at 1:00 pm.
