SALEM, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team placed third out of 10 teams at the Roanoke College Invitational on Saturday.
Lynchburg took the top spot with 121.50 points, Bridgewater was second (106 points) and the Generals totaled 92 points.
Junior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) led the team with a win and a third-place finish. Robertson took the top spot in the hammer throw at 46.57m (152'9.00"), and he claimed third in the shot put with a toss of 13.09m (42'11.50").
Sophomore Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) claimed second in the javelin and the discus. He registered a throw of 47.34m (155'3.00") in the javelin and 41.64m (136'7.00") in the discus.
First-year Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) took second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.34. In the 400m hurdles, Pranka was second in 56.80. Junior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) claimed third in the 200m (23.07).
Junior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) was third in the 800m with a time of 1:59.69. First-year Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) placed third in the 400m in 51.07.
The 4x400m relay finished second with a time of 3:27.10. The quartet consisted of Pranka, Huffman, junior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) and Jones. The 4x100m relay was fourth in 44.79. The foursome consisted of sophomore Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg), Huffman, Jones and Turner.
On Friday, the team sent a group of distance runners to the Colonial Relays at William & Mary. In the 5,000m, junior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) recorded a time of 15:13.69 and junior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) crossed the finish line in 15:36.10.
Senior Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) led the Blue and White contingent in the 1,500m. He registered a time of 4:02.79. Sophomore MacKenzye Leroy (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) had a time of 4:03.90, first-year Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) was at 4:07.86 and junior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) at 4:11.54.
The Generals will next compete at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on April 16.
