LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) and sophomore Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) each won events to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day one of the W&L Carnival on Friday at Wilson Field.
Turner claimed the title in the high jump at 1.86m (6'1.25"). Junior Harrison DeKnight (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was fourth in the event at 1.81m (5'11.25"). Turner also placed third in the long jump at 6.53m (21'5.25"). Sophomore Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) was eighth at 6.22m (20'5.00").
Dericks won the discus with a toss of 41.24m (135'4.00"). Junior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) took third in the event at 40.43m (132'8.00"). Robertson also placed second in the hammer throw at 46.59m (152'10.50").
Junior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) was second in the 5,000m with a time of 15:01.75. Junior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) was eighth in 15:22.55 and senior Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) was ninth in 15:26. 52. First-year Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) took eighth in the 1,500m in 4:07.36.
The 4x400m relay finished sixth in 3:25.41. The quartet consisted of first-years Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) and Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) and junior Rob Jones (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) and Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School).
The second day of the W&L Carnival begins at 10:00 am on Saturday.
