LANDOVER, Md. — Junior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) won two events to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team to a second-place finish at the Indoor ODAC Championship on Sunday at the Prince George Athletic Complex. Bridgewater won the conference title with 166 points.
The Generals won five events, totaling 115.5 points, and the second-place showing is the best for the team since claiming second in 2012.
Having won both events last year, McDonald defended his titles in the mile and the 3,000m to pace the Blue and White. He crossed the finish line in the mile in 4:22.08. Sophomore MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) took second (4:23.98) and junior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) claimed fifth with a time of 4:29.03. McDonald registered a time of 8:57.34 to win the 3,000m.
W&L claimed two field events. Junior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) won the high jump with a leap of 1.92m (6'03.50"). Junior Harrison DeKnight (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was eighth at 1.79m (5'10.50"). In the pole vault, junior Rob Jones (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy) claimed the top spot at 4.16m (13'07.75"). First-year Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) took fifth at 3.81m (12'06.00").
The Blue and White also won the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:42.23. The quartet consisted of first-year Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School), first-year Albert Del Cristo (Clarksburg, N.J./Notre Dame), junior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) and senior Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette).
Junior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) claimed second in the 400m with a time of 50.47 and finished seventh in the 200m (23.16). Junior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) placed third in the 5,000m in 15:09.23 and first-year Alex Dolwick (Apex, N.C./GRACE Christian School) finished eighth (16:01.82).
Junior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) was second in the shot put at 15.01m (49'03.25"), and finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 14.54m (47'08.75"). Turner tied for eighth in the long jump at 6.35m (20'10.00").
Pranka claimed third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.53. In the 800m, Roberts took fifth in 1:59.82, while Patrick was seventh (2:02.83).
The 4x400m relay finished fourth in 3:29.12. The foursome consisted of Pranka, Rob Jones, senior Charlie Zachariades (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Jack Jones.
All competitors and relays that finished in the Top 3 in an event earned All-ODAC accolades. The Generals will send a couple of competitors to the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet on Friday.
