LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's track and fiel distance medley relay set a new school record, as the Generals competed at two meets on Saturday.
At the Camel City Invite at the JDL Fast Track, the DMR crossed the finish line in 10:27.47 to place ninth overall (third in D III). The quartet consisted of juniors Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman), Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) and Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) and sophomore MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis). The previous W&L record was 10:30.26, which was set on March 3, 2012. Also at the meet, junior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) claimed 21st (first in D III) in the shot put at 13.31m (43'08.00").
The Generals sent most of the team to the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty. First-year Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) was the highlight for the Blue and White with two Top 3 finishes. He claimed third among non-Division I competitors in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.68. He also took third in the pole vault with a leap of 3.30m (10'10.00").
First-year Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) recorded two Top 10 finishes. He claimed fifth in the mile with a time of 4:34.20, and was 10th in the 800m in 2:06.83. Junior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) crossed the finish line fifth in the 400m (51.84).
Junior Harrison DeKnight (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) placed ninth in the high jump with a leap of 1.74m (5'08.50"), and was eighth in the long jump at 12.19m (40'00.00").
W&L next competes at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport on Saturday, February 6.
