MARIETTA, Ohio — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team had its first competition of the new year at the Marietta Open on Saturday. The Generals had two individual winners to pace the team.
Junior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) claimed the top spot in the 400m with a time of 51.23. Jones also tied for fourth in the 200m in 23.53. In the 800m, junior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) won the event in 2:03.84. Junior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) was fourth in the 800m in 2:06.51. Harmon placed third in the mile with a time of 4:34.51.
In the 1,000m, senior Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) finished third in 2:46.39. Sophomore MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) claimed fourth in the 3,000m with a time of 9:04.11. The Distance Medley Relay placed second in 11:16.31. The foursome consisted of Leroy, first-years Skyler Zunk (Moseley, Va./Cosby) and Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) and sophomore Ben Murphy (Clarksville, Md./Glenelg).
Junior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) recorded a mark of 13.86m (45'05.75") to finish second in the weight throw. Junior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) placed second in the high jump at 1.92m (6'03.50"). In the triple jump, junior Harrison DeKnight (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) took fourth at 12.22m (40'01.25").
In the 4x400m, the Generals finished sixth with a time of 3:42.23. The quartet consisted of senior Charlie Zachariades (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), Jones, first-year Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) and Turner.
The Generals next compete at the Christopher Newport Captains' Invite on January 22-23.
