DELAWARE, Ohio — Washington and Lee senior Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) and junior Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) competed on day two of the Division III NCAA Track and Field Championship on Friday hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. Tallman qualified for Saturday's final in the 400m, while Jeong fell short in the 100m.
Competing in the second of three heats, Tallman recorded the top time in his race and the second-fastest overall in 47.36 to advance to the finals. Senior Chancise Watkins of La Verne registered the top time of 47.02. The Top 8 times in the three heats advanced to the finals. Tallman was a split second off his W&L record of 47.35 set three weeks ago at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on May 8.
Jeong finished fifth in his heat and 14th overall in the 100m with a time of 10.79. It marked the second-fastest time of his career and was just off his W&L record of 10.65. The Top 8 competitors advanced to the final on Saturday.
Tallman and senior Kevin Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass./Tabor) will compete on Saturday. Sullivan participates in the javelin at 3:00 pm, and Tallman runs in the 400m at 3:05 pm.
