SALEM, Va. — Senior Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) won the long jump to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day one of the ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Roanoke on Friday.
Lynchburg leads the team competition with 55 points. Bridgewater is second (43), Eastern Mennonite is third (26) and the Generals totaled 20 points to sit in fourth.
Myers jumped 6.70m (21'11.75") to win his first ever individual ODAC title. He previously had two event wins as a member of relays earlier in his career. The leap also marked a new career best for Myers. He edged Stefan Vessels of Bridgewater who finished at 6.69m (21'11.50").
In the final event of the evening, first-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) took second in the 10,000m with a career-best time of 32:30.27. In the other distance event on Friday, first-year Kevin Good (Franklin, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) placed sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:20.70.
First-year Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) claimed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 13.25m (43'05.75"). It marked a new career best by almost two feet.
The Generals also had multiple athletes compete in prelims on Friday and qualified for Saturday's finals. The team had three athletes advance in the 400m, two in the 200m, two in the 100m and one in the 400m hurdles.
All competitors that finished in the Top 3 of an event earned All-ODAC accolades. The second and final day of the competition will take place on Saturday, starting at 10:00 am.
