W&L Men's T&F Records Nine Event Wins at Commonwealth Duals
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Competing against Christopher Newport and Virginia Wesleyan at the Commonwealth Duals, the Washington and Lee men's track and field team won nine events on Saturday and had five second-place finishes.
First-year Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) won both the shot put and the discus with new collegiate bests. He recorded a mark of 12.78m (41'11.25) in the shot put and registered a toss of 37.97m (124'07.00") in the discus. He also finished third in the hammer throw at 41.19m (135'02.00").
In the javelin, senior Kevin Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass./Tabor) notched a personal best and a first-place finish with a mark of 58.83m (193'00.00"). Senior David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) claimed first in the pole vault at 4.07m (13'04.25").
Senior Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) won the 400m hurdles in 56.34 and took second in the long jump at 6.33m (20'09.25"). Senior Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) crossed the finish line first in the 400m (48.60) and was second in the 200m (22.44).
In the 1,500m, first-year Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) took the top spot in his first time competing in the event. He recorded a time of 4:00.75. First-year Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) placed second in the 800m in 1:56.94.
The Generals claimed the Top 2 spots in the 5,000m with first-year Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) taking first (16:38.98) and sophomore Mark Gensburg (Barrington Hills, Ill./Barrington) in second (17:20.25). First-year Kevin Good (Franklin, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) crossed the finish line second in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:55.25.
Also competing for W&L this weekend was first-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond. Strehler came in fourth in the 10,000m with a time of 32:47.05.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, April 12, at the Hopkins-Loyola Invitational.
