Strehler Honored as W&L Men's T&F Takes Third at ODAC Championship

HAMPTON, Va. — Washington and Lee finished third at the ODAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va. Lynchburg claimed the team title with 154 points, Bridgewater was second (118) and the Generals finished with 80 points.

First-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) earned the Rookie of the Year honor and was the only individual winner for W&L. The team did claim five second-place finishes.

Strehler took the top spot in the 5,000m at 15:23.38. The time was 10 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. He is the first Rookie of the Year for the Generals since Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranboork-Kingswood) received the honor in 2011.

The Blue and White placed second in both of the relays. In the DMR, the quartet of first-year Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), sophomore Charlie Zachariades (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), first-year Christopher Cardon (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and sophomore Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) finished behind Bridgewater with a time of 10:44.21.

In the final race of the meet, the Generals missed the top spot in the 4x400m relay by a split second. Lynchburg crossed the finish line in 3:23.97, while the foursome of Zachariades, first-years Isidro Camacho (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier), Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) and Tallman finished in 3:23.98.

Tallman registered two other Top 3 finishes at the meet. He claimed second in the 400m at 49.98 and third in the 200m with a time of 22.38. Also in the 200m, junior Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) placed fourth in 22.83.

Jeong finished second in the 60m finals with a time of 6.91. He broke his own W&L school record in the prelims by running 6.90. His previous record was 6.91. Senior Agustin Kim (La Habra, Calif./Troy) claimed sixth in the 60m in 7.17.

In the 800m, W&L took the fourth and fifth spots. Jones came in fourth in 1:59.37, and Camacho was right behind him with a time of 1:59.72.

First-year Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) finished third in the mile at 4:24.89, and Warring claimed sixth in the 3,000m in 9:03.60.

The Generals took two of the Top 4 spots in the pole vault. Senior David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) placed second with a jump of 4.20m (13'09.25"). First-year Robert Jones (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy) took fourth with a mark of 3.95m (12'11.50").

In the throwing events, first-year Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored in the weight throw and the shot put. He took sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.07m (42'10.75"). He finished with a mark of 12.59m (41'03.75") to finish sixth in the shot put.

All competitors that finished in the Top 3 of an event earned All-ODAC accolades. A select group of the team will compete at the Columbia Final Qualifier on Saturday, March 8.
