LEWISBURG, Pa. — First-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) set the W&L indoor record in the 5,000m on Friday to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day one of the Bison Open hosted by Bucknell.
Strehler finished third out of 43 competitors with a time of 15:21.30. The time broke Vance Berry's record of 15:25.37 set in 2009.
In the DMR, the Generals finished sixth out of 11 teams. The quartet of seniors Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) and Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood), sophomore Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) and first-year Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) finished in 10:33.65. The time was just a few seconds behind the W&L record of 10:30.26.
In the 200m prelims, Tallman and junior Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) advanced to the finals on Saturday. Tallman had the second-fastest time at 22.46, while Jeong had the 12th-fastest at 22.95.
Day two of the Bison Open begins on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
