MARIETTA, Ohio — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team competed at the Marietta Open on Saturday, and the Generals took the top three spots in the 800m.
Senior Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) claimed the top spot with a time of 1:57.62, which was just .16 seconds off of senior Kane Thomas' (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) school-record time of 1:57.46. First-year Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie SchooL) finished second in the event in 1:58.40, and first-year Isidro Camacho (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) placed third in 2:00.79.
In the mile, W&L had three competitors in the in Top 6. Sophomore Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) crossed the finish line third (4:33.70). Sophomore Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) placed fifth, and first-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) took sixth with a time of 4:39.95.
Strehler also won the 3,000m in 9:08.23, while Warring came in third in 9:19.16. Senior David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) finished sixth in the pole vault with a jump 3.95m (12'11.50").
In the throwing events, first-year Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) finished with a mark of 12.50m (41'00.25") in the shot put, which was almost a three meter improvement from his toss of 9.93m (32'07.00") last week.
The Generals will compete at the Bison Open next Saturday.
