Myers Leads W&L Men's T&F at Commonwealth Duals
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Led by junior Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) the Washington and Lee men's track and field team had 17 Top 3 finishes at the Commonwealth Duals hosted by Christopher Newport on Saturday. Myers recorded three individual Top 2 finishes and was part of the 4x400m relay, which claimed first.
Myers took the top spot in the 400H with a time of 55.57. He tied for second with classmate Mitchell Thompson (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) in the high jump with a mark of 1.74m (5'08.50"). In the 110H, Myers claimed second in 16.37. The quartet of Myers, first-year Thomas Dunbar (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep) and junior Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) and Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) finished first in the 4x400m in 3:22.11.
In the field events, sophomore Eddie Barnes (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) placed in three events. He won the javelin, claimed third in the discus at 36.73m (120'06.00") and took second in the shot put with a throw of 13.18m (43'03.00").
Also in the shot put, junior Jordan Yost (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) finished fourth at 11.89m (39'00.25"). He claimed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.74m (140'02.00").
Junior David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) finished third in the pole vault with a jump of 4.07m (13'04.25"), and junior Jonathan Sells (Brandon, Fla./C. Leon King) came in third in the long jump with a lifetime best of 6.60m (21'08.00").
In the distance events, first-year Mark Gensburg (Barrington Hills, Ill./Barrington) claimed fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 17:24.55. The Generals had two competitors in the Top 7 in the 1,500m. First-year Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) had a season-best time of 4:11.89 to take fourth, and sophomore James Busch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) crossed the finish line seventh in 4:15.08.
Thomas came in second in the 800m with a time of 1:57.59, which marked a season best. W&L had three in the Top 8 of the 400m. Tallman claimed second with a time of 48.80, Dunbar took fifth in 51.70 and junior Mac Keers (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) had a season-best time of 52.73 to come in eighth.
The Blue and White saw success in the 200m with three in the Top 6. Tallman crossed the finish line third in 21.98, junior Cole Glasgow (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) finished fifth with a time of 22.81 and sophomore Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) placed sixth in 22.99.
Along with Myers in the 110H, first-year Jamaal Jones (Katy, Texas/Shadow Mountain) finished third in 16.73. In the 100m, Jeong claimed second with a time of 11.02 and Glasgow placed fourth in 11.19. W&L also took second in the 4x100m relay in a time of 42.88. The relay consisted of Jones, Glasgow, Jeong and Tallman.
The Generals will take a week off and return to action on April 13 at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational.
