WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team opened the 2013 outdoor season at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational this weekend. The Generals used the event as a way to ease some athletes back into competition after they missed the indoor season due to injuries. Juniors Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood), Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) and Cole Glasgow (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) were the only athletes competing for the Blue and White.
The meet featured mostly Division I and II teams with only a handful of D-III squads. Myers took part in two events on Friday. He finished fifth (first in D-III) in the javelin with a personal best throw of 50.39m (165'04.00"). He also claimed seventh (first in D-III) in the long jump with a mark of 6.38m (20'11.25").
On Saturday, Myers placed fourth (first in D-III) in the high jump at 1.83m (6'00.00"). Tallman, Glasgow and Myers all competed in the 200m. Tallman took 13th (second in D-II) with a time of 22.81, Glasgow was 16th (third in D-III) at 23.25 and Myers finished 17th (fourth in D-III).
In the 400m, Tallman claimed sixth (first in D-III) in 50.81 and Myers came in seventh (second in D-III) with a time of 51.06. Glasgow took eighth (first in D-III) in the 100m at 11.27.
Despite only sending three athletes, the Generals finished sixth out of nine teams with 18 points. The whole team will take part in at the Lynchburg Open next Saturday, March 16, at 9:30 am.
