FOREST, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) has been named the ODAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Tallman, who earned the award for the second time this season, broke a pair of school records at the Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday.
He was the first overall finisher in the 400m with a new school standard of 49.06, eclipsing his own school record of 49.96 that he set as a first-year. That time not only ranks as the fastest 400m in the ODAC this year, but is also the third-fastest time in all of Division III thus far.
Tallman's other school record came in the 200m, as he finished third overall and first among Div. III athletes with a mark of 22.31 to surpass the old mark of 22.78 set by Jeff Giordano in 2009.
The majority of the team will return to the track on Feb. 24 for the ODAC Championships at Liberty University, while a few competitors may compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 17-18.
