W&L Claims Two ODAC Weekly Honors
FOREST, Va. – Washington and Lee University claimed two Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for the week ending January 15 as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Senior swimmer Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) earned the weekly honor for women's swimming, and sophomore Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) was the honoree for men's track and field.
Cassada registered three first-place finishes at the Bridgewater dual on Saturday where the Generals defeated the Eagles 148-101. In the 50-yard freestyle, Cassada clocked in at 28.93 seconds and recorded a 2:28.74 in the 200-yard back to come away with both wins. She also teamed up with senior Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York), junior Izzy Brasfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) and first year Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) to take first in the 200-yard medley relay, coming in at 2:07.21.
Tallman also posted three first-place finishes on the track at the Marietta Open this weekend. In the 200-meter dash, he crossed the line in 22.78 seconds, and won his second individual event with a 50.05 performance in the 400-meter dash. Tallman anchored the 4x400-meter relay also consisting of junior Steven Colliau (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena), and sophomores Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) and Mac Keers (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), clocking in at 3:30.86 to finish with triple wins.
The women's swimming team will next travel to Marymount where they will compete in a double-dual meet with Catholic on Saturday, beginning at 2:00pm. The men's track and field team will take a week off to prepare for the Liberty Open, to be held on January 27 and 28.
