Men's Tennis vs. Hampden-Sydney
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 25th-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team fell to second-seeded Hampden-Sydney by a score of 5-3 in the ODAC Championship match on Sunday afternoon at the W&L Courts.
For W&L (15-6), the loss snapped a string of 13-consecutive league titles and was the first setback to an ODAC school since falling to the Tigers midway through the 2000 season.
Hampden-Sydney (13-5) receives the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament while the Generals must wait to see if they are awarded an at-large bid.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 25th-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team defeated eighth-seeded Guilford, 9-0, in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Friday at the W&L Courts.
The Generals will take on either fourth-seeded Roanoke or fifth-seeded Emory & Henry in the semifinals on Saturday at 9:30 am as they pursue their 14th-straight conference crown.

Men's Tennis at ITA Regionals
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men’s tennis team continued action at the ITA Southeast Regional on Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Mary Washington.
First-year Ben Fass (Baltimore, Md./Friends) was the lone General to compete on Sunday in either the championship singles or doubles brackets. After posting a 2-0 record in the singles bracket on Saturday, Fass fell in the Round of 16 to Randy Loden of Mary Washington by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
Several W&L players were also alive in the singles and doubles consolation brackets. First-year Jeremy Becht (Prospect, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) will continue on Monday morning after notching a pair of wins on Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the singles consolation bracket.
Becht began the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sasha Felikson of Salisbury and received a bye before knocking off Swarthmore’s J.J. England, 6-4, 6-2. He then defeated first-year teammate Jonathan Gaffney (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) in the quarterfinals by a score of 6-2, 6-7 (4), 10-7.
Becht will face Carnegie Mellon’s Bobby MacTaggert on Monday at 9:00 am.
Men's Tennis at ITA Regionals
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's tennis team was in action on Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regional Singles and Doubles Championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
In singles play, first-year Ben Fass (Baltimore, Md./Friends) is the lone General to advance through the first day of competition and will take on Mary Washington's Randy Loden on Sunday morning for a berth to the quarterfinals. Fass posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Orlando Ferrer of Johns Hopkins in the first round. He then knocked off Dickinson's Ross Anstaett, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.
In doubles, the team of junior Alex Brooke (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and senior Jamie McCardell (Cornwall, Vt./Episcopal) were the lone W&L duo to record a first round victory, defeating David Lupinetti and Marcus Robinson of Salisbury, 8-5. However, Brooke and McCardell were knocked off in the second round by Jason Dunn and John James of Mary Washington, 8-4.
Action continues from the ITA Regional on Sunday morning.
Men's Tennis hosts ODAC Individuals
LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men’s tennis team completed play in the ODAC Singles Championship held on Saturday and Sunday at the W&L Courts.
First-year Jeremy Becht paced the Generals’ individuals by winning the championship of the “A” bracket. Becht knocked off second-seeded Kevin Calhoun of Hampden-Sydney in the championship match by a score of 6-3, 6-0. En route to his 4-0 record for the weekend, Becht also knocked off top-seeded Rich Pugh of Hampden-Sydney, 6-4, 7-5.
Fellow first-year Ben Fass also went 4-0 to claim the championship of the “B” bracket. The second seed defeated top-seeded Shad Harrell of Hampden-Sydney, 7-5, 6-2, in the title match.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sept. 20-22 as it competes in the ITA Atlantic South Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Men's Tennis hosts ODAC Individuals
LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men’s tennis team advanced six individuals to the semifinals of their respective flights at the ODAC Men’s Singles Tournament held at Washington and Lee on Saturday.
W&L first-year Jeremy Becht defeated Lynchburg’s Kristian Richardson and Rich Pugh of Hampden-Sydney to advance to the semi-finals of the “A” Flight where he will take on W&L sophomore Morgan Hopson (Houston, Texas/Saint Thomas). Hopson downed Roanoke’s Hart Callahan and Ryan Radke of Bridgewater to move on.
The Generals also advanced two players to the semifinals in the “C” Flight. First-year Brian Roberts received a first-round bye and then defeated Brent Floyd of Bridgewater to advance, where he will face Hampden-Sydney’s Zach Pack tomorrow. Pack knocked off Robert Martin of Lynchburg and Roanoke’s Ben Tingle to move on. Sophomore Will Hall (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) also advanced after receiving a first-round bye. He then downed Kyler Paluga of Lynchburg. Hall will face Teddy Callow of Bridgewater, who defeated Hampden-Sydney’s Tal Covington and Chris Wojtera of Emory & Henry.
The ODAC Singles Championship resumes on Sunday morning at 9:00 am.
