W&L Men's Tennis Places Three on ITA All-America Team

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced its 2013 NCAA Division III All-America teams and three athletes from the Washington and Lee men's tennis team were honored.

Recent graduate Hayden White (Baltimore, Md. / Towson) garnered All-American honors in singles, while rising junior Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas / ATA College Prep) and sophomore Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) earned All-American accolades in doubles.

White, a two-time ODAC Player of the year, earned All-American laurels after advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament by defeating Joey Fritz of Amherst by a score of 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. White finished the season with an overall singles record of 23-9 and ranked 14th in the nation in the final ITA Division III Men's Tennis poll. He finished his career ranked third all-time in singles wins at W&L with an 81-33 record.

Both Holt and Shamshiri earned All-American honors after the duo won their opening match of the NCAA tournament to advance to the quarterfinals. Shamshiri and Holt then bested the tournament's second-seeded duo of Adam Putterman and Ross Putterman from Washington University in St. Louis, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals. The tandem finished the season 26-6 and ranked fourth in the nation in the final ITA poll.
