NCAA Announces Men's & Women's Tennis Fields
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the field for its 2012 Division III men’s and women’s tennis tournaments on Monday afternoon.
Both W&L teams will travel to Emory University for first, second and third round action this weekend.
The W&L men (15-4) will take on the University of Texas-Tyler (17-5), champions of the American Southwest Conference, in a first round match on Friday in Atlanta, Ga. Should the Generals win, they would take on Emory (20-0) in the second round on Saturday. The other second round match pits Whitman (21-4) and North Carolina Wesleyan (16-2). The Saturday winners will meet in the third round on Sunday.
The Washington and Lee women (20-5) received a first round bye and will take on the winner of a first round match between Ohio Athletic Conference champion Ohio Northern (22-4) and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Transylvania (11-1) on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. Emory also received a first round bye and will play host to either Agnes Scott (15-3) or Methodist (21-3) in the second round. Saturday winners will meet in the third round on Sunday.
The 2012 Division III men’s and women’s tennis nationals will take place at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., on May 21-26.
