FOREST, Va. – Two Washington and Lee athletes have been named the ODAC Players of the Week for the week ending Feb. 26, as announced by the league on Monday.
First-year Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas/ATA College Prep) was chosen for men's tennis, while senior Alli Shearin took home the women's lacrosse award.
Shamshiri earned men's tennis honors, after being the only General to win two singles matches last week as W&L faced two Top 15 teams. He posted a 7-6 (1), 6-3 win over No. 15 Redlands at No. 3 singles. He went on to upset Alex Johnson of No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the No. 12 player in the country, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
The Generals are 2-3 on the year, and 1-0 in conference action.
Shearin, an attacker, was awarded the weekly ODAC accolade for women's lacrosse after leading W&L to a 2-0 week. She was the leading scorer for the Generals, notching seven total points on six goals and one assist. In a 10-9 win over Christopher Newport on Monday, she led the Generals with four goals, including the game-winner, and added a draw control and ground ball. Against Stevenson, Shearin tallied two goals, one assist and a draw control to push W&L to a 10-8 victory.
The Generals are currently ranked 14th in the country and have a 2-0 overall record.
Men's tennis next sees action on Feb. 29, when they host Roanoke at 3:00 pm. Women's lacrosse travels to Franklin & Marshall on March 3 for a 1:00 pm contest.
