Three Generals Earn ODAC Athlete of the Week Honors

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion
Athletic Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week
ending March 29 and Washington and Lee grabbed the honors in men's
tennis, women's tennis and women's track & field.
First-year Michael Freeman (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) received the
award in men's tennis, senior Katie Tabb (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina)
was the women's tennis honoree and senior Becca Taylor (Hamilton,
Ohio/Edgewood) was the women's track & field awardee.
Freeman helped lead the Generals men's tennis team to a 3-0 week by
winning all three of his singles matches and both of his doubles
matches. He posted wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles in a 9-0
win over Lynchburg on Tuesday, then notched a victory at No. 6
singles in a 6-3 win over Averett on Friday. He came back on Sunday
to log wins at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles in a 7-2 victory
over Swarthmore. For the season, Freeman is 16-8 in singles and 5-5
in doubles.
Tabb helped the women's tennis team to a 6-1 record on the week,
including wins over 13th-ranked Middlebury and 16th-ranked DePauw.
The lone loss was a 5-4 setback to top-ranked Williams. For the
week, Tabb posted a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles and teamed with
junior Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) to go 3-0 at
No. 1 doubles. On the season, Tabb has posted a 14-4 singles mark
and has teamed with Caire to post an 11-5 overall mark. For her
career, she is 80-24 in singles and 93-19 in doubles. Her 93
doubles wins are tied for fourth all-time at W&L.
Taylor received the women's track & field honor after placing
first overall out of seven athletes that participated in the 3,000
meter steeplechase at the W&L-VMI Carnival held in Lexington,
Va., over the weekend. She finished with a time of 11:37.98 that
smashed the previous W&L and ODAC records. Her time was 21
seconds faster than the previous school record and 13.5 seconds
better than the previous ODAC mark.
