W&L Men's Swimming Competes in Final Day of NCAAs

SHENANDOAH, Texas – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. 

Seniors Rick Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School) and first-year Brennan Haley (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) each competed in individual events. Sykes swam in the 100 free, clocking in at 45.34 to place 23rd overall. Marsh went 1:50.79 in the 200 back for 21st place and Haley recorded a time of 1:53.24 in the same event to finish in 28th.

None of the times qualified for Saturday evening's finals. 

Kenyon cliamed team title with 499.5 points, while Denison finished as runner-up with 428 points and MIT recorded 334 points to take third place. Johns Hopkins (316), Emory (280), Stevens (185), Amherst (172) Williams (130), Redlands (129.5) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (117) rounded out the top 10. The Generals totaled 25 points in the four days of competition to place 30th overall.

The conclusion of NCAAs ended the 2012-13 men's swimming season.
