INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four members of the Washington and Lee men's swimming team have been selected to compete at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships to be held on March 20-23 in Shenandoah, Texas.
Senior Rick Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA meet in the 50 free after recording an "A"-cut time of 20.01 in his winning effort at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference meet. His performance is currently tied for second in the country. Sykes will also be competing in the 100 free, where he ranks 16th with a time of 45.38.
The 200 medley relay consisting of Sykes, senior Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School), junior David Ireland (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and first-year Brennan Haley (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) also qualified to compete at the meet. The group is seeded 15th with a time of 1:31.63. The same unit will team up in the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay, seeded 19th (1:23.07) and 21st (3:24.21), respectively.
Marsh and Haley recorded "B"-cut times at the conference meet and will have the opportunity to represent the Generals in individual races. Both will compete in the 200 back, with Marsh seeded 20th (1:50.75) and Haley ranked 28th (1:52.47). Marsh is also set to race in the 100 back, coming in at 50.63 earlier this season to sit 20th in the seedings.
The NCAA Championships are set to begin at 11:00 am at the Conroe ISD Natatorium.
