CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Washington and Lee men's swimming team sits in sixth place with 178 points after the third day of the 2013 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship on Friday.
Wingate leads the four-day championship with 556 points. Queens University of Charlotte is second (462), Johns Hopkins is third (330), Catawba is fourth (239) and Limestone is fifth (189).
The 200 medley relay had the best night for the Generals. The quartet of senior Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School), junior David Ireland (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), first-year Brennan Haley (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and senior Rick Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) took fifth with a time of 1:32.41. It was good enough for a NCAA "B" cut time and just three tenths of a second off the school record.
Marsh also took ninth in the 100 back in 51.01. Haley also scored in the event, taking 13th with a time of 51.94.
The Championship concludes on Saturday with races starting at 10:00 am.
