The College Sports Information Directors Association announced its 2012 Capital One Division III Academic All-American At-Large teams on Tuesday and Washington and Lee had two athletes honored.

Three Washington and Lee student-athletes have been selected to the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-America All-District At-Large teams as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday.

Lawson and Westfal Highlight Major Award Winners at W&L
Washington and Lee University held its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 15 at Lee Chapel. Headlining the award winners were senior soccer player Kat Lawson (White Post, Va./Clarke County) and senior football player Charlie Westfal (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), who were selected as the “Pres” Brown Outstanding Senior Female and Male Athletes of the Year as voted on by members of the department.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its 2012 winter postgraduate scholarship winners and Washington and Lee claimed two honorees among the 29 Division I, II and III men that were recognized.

Numerous W&L Students Earn Winter Scholar-Athlete Awards
Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 185 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.

Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that current women’s swimming coach Kami Gardner will take on responsibilities as director of aquatics and has also been named head men’s swimming coach effective immediately.

W&L Announces its 25th Athletic Hall of Fame Class
Washington and Lee University will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Athletic Hall of Fame in ceremonies on campus the weekend of September 14-15. W&L has announced that five new members will join the 112 former athletes, coaches, administrators and support staff, who have already been honored as the University’s best.

Joel Shinofield, the head men’s swimming coach and director of aquatics at Washington and Lee since 2003, has announced his resignation in order to pursue other professional opportunities for both his family and himself.

The Washington and Lee men’s swimming team wrapped up the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships with a 16th-place finish in the team standings, recording 56.5 total points over four days of competition, on Saturday at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
