INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Six members of the Washington and Lee men's swimming team have been selected to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships on March 21 – 24, hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.
Two relays will be racing for top spots at the championships this season. The record-breaking 200-medley relay made of seniors Ian Dexter (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook) and Brian Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery), and juniors Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School) and Rick Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) will enter the competition with the eighth seed after posting a season-best time of 1:32.15, which is a new school record.
Dexter, Stirling and Sykes also teamed up with senior Jeff Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) to qualify in the 200-free relay, going into the championships as the 12th seed with a time of 1:22.75.
Brian Stirling will also race in the 100 fly, seeded sixth (49.26), and Sykes will participate in the 50 free (20.44) as the seventh seed.
Senior Chris Washnock (Greer, S.C./Greenville) has been chosen to compete in two individual events for the Generals. Washnock broke his own school record this season in the 400 IM to qualify in the event with a time of 4:00.03. After clocking in at 1:49.51 this year, he will also advance to the championships in the 200 back. Washnock is seeded 13th for both.
The NCAA Championships are set to begin at 11:00 am on March 21 in the Indiana University Natatorium.
