LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) scored the game-winning goal in the 10th minute to help lift the 24th-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Emory on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Kim tallied the game-winner at 10:44 after he received a pass in the center of the box from junior midfielder Dylan Ritch (Mint Hill, N.C. / Independence). Kim redirected it into the lower corner past Emory (2-1) goalkeeper Trevor Stormes to give the Blue and White the victory. The Generals (3-0) held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half.
Strong defense by both teams in the second half led to only nine shots and three on goal. Senior goalkeeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) saved Emory's lone shot on goal to keep the Eagles from finding an equalizer. The Generals held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest to pull off the win.
For the game, W&L outshot the Eagles 11-7, while both teams took six corner kicks. Beck played all 90 minutes for the Blue and White and made three stops. Stormes also played the entire match in goal for Emory and collected two saves.
The Generals return to action on Sunday when they host sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall for a 2:30 pm game.
