GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five second-half goals helped propel the fifth-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Guilford on Wednesday night at the Armfield Athletic Center.
The Generals (9-1, 4-0) out-shot the Quakers 11-1 in the first half, but could not find the net until senior forward Geinda Smith (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) collected a ball that was bouncing around in the box and fired it just past GC (5-6, 0-2) senior goalkeeper Eric Hayes just 30 seconds into the second half.
W&L would take a 2-0 lead just two minutes later, when first-year defender Oliver Dolberg (Clovis, Calif. / Buchanan) found the back of the net at 47:32 off of an assist from sophomore midfielder James Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade).
Senior defender Dylan Stroud (Chester, N.J. / Delbarton School) scored the Generals third goal off of junior midfielder Andrew Kim's (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) corner kick at 71:07. Only one minute later, sophomore Dylan Ritch (Mint Hill, N.C. / Independence) found the back of the net off of a free kick from right outside the box.
Kim would give the Blue and White their final goal of the game at 86:35, after his corner kick bounced into the back of the net.
The Generals held a 32-3 shot advantage and an 11-0 edge in corner kicks. Senior Connor Hayward (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) played all 90 minutes and made one save. Hayes made six saves in 90 minutes for Guilford.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host No. 13 Messiah at 3:00 pm.
