LYNCHBURG, Va. – First-year midfielder Will Hamryka (Dawsonville, Ga. / Greater Atlanta Christian School) scored with just 3:32 left in regulation as the Washington and Lee men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Lynchburg on Wednesday night at Shellenberger Field.
Lynchburg (6-2-4, 2-1-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 16:58 into the contest when sophomore forward Fredy Flores found the back of the net off of an assist from sophomore forward Collin Kashmer.
Despite outshooting the Hornets by a count of 8-4 in the first half, the Generals (7-3-2, 5-0-1) could not get on the board until Hamryka beat junior goalie Cory Budka in the 88th minute to knot the game at 1-1.
W&L took three shots in the overtime periods, but could not find the game-winner. For the game, the Generals held a 23-11 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) played the entire match in goal for the Blue and White and recorded three saves. Budka also played the entire game and stopped one shot for the Hornets.
W&L returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Randolph-Macon for an 11:00 am contest.
