LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team took advantage of four goals in the first half to defeat the visiting Wasps of Emory & Henry, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field. The Generals improve to 15-0-1 against at Wasps since E&H defeated W&L, 7-2, during the 1996 season.
With the win, the Generals improved to 8-1-5 overall and 6-1-2 in the ODAC, while the Wasps fell to 2-15 and 1-8 in conference play.
Senior midfielder Parker Wolfinger (Greer, S.C./) led the offense with his best scoring outout of the season, which consisted of one goal and two assists. At the 8:18 mark, Wolfinger collected an Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) pass and gave the Generals the early 1-0 lead.
In the 17th minute, junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) was fouled in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Colby sent to ball into the lower right-hand corner and notched his 11th goal of the season. With that goal, Colby is now tied for 10th place on W&L's Top 10 list for career goals (24) and single season goals (11).
Wolfinger picked up his two assists in the 21st and 27th minute when he assisted senior forward Justin TenBrook's (Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) and sophomore Fred Gisa's (Kigali, Rwanda/Sonrise) first goal of the season.
Junior keeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) played the first half in goal for the Generals and made one save. Sophomore Kieran McQuilkin (New Canaan, Conn./King & Low) started the second half, playing 27:49 before first-year Connor Hayward (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) came in to play the final 17:11.
For the game, the Generals held a 26-5 lead in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blue and White return to the field on Saturday, playing host to Guilford for a 3:00 pm contest.
