LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior defender Zach Clarke (Beaumont, Texas/Monsignor Kelly Catholic) led the Generals to a 3-0 victory over the Shenandoah Hornets with two goals on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals came out strong, scoring two goals in the first half. Junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) struck first with an unassisted tally at the 13:35 mark to net his eighth goal of the season. Clarke recorded his first goal of the game in the 30th minute off an Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) assist and sent W&L into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Clarke scored again at the 59:29 mark after securing a pass from fellow senior Justin TenBrook (Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep), which secured the 3-0 victory for the Generals.
Junior keeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) played the first half for the Generals and made one save, while sophomore Kieran McQuilkin (New Canaan, Conn./King & Low) played the second half in goal and made one stop. First-year Rodrigo Casteriana (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) suffered the loss in goal for the Hornets, finishing the game with three goals-against and six saves.
For the game, the Blue and White outshot the Hornets 28-5, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Generals also held a 13-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 pm contest.
