W&L Men's Soccer Tallies a 4-0 Win Over Ferrum
LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) led the Washington and Lee men's soccer with three goals as the team blanked the Panthers of Ferrum College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Generals improve to 2-0-3 on the year, while FC falls to 3-2-0 overall.
Colby started off the scoring with his first goal of the season at the 11:38 mark to give the Generals an early 1-0 lead. In the 14th minute, junior midfielder Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) controlled a pass from first-year defender Patrick Barry (West Roxbury, Md./Roxbury Latin School) to increase the Generals lead to 2-0.
Colby netted his second goal of the game late in the first half to give the Generals a 3-0 lead going into the intermission after he hit the back of the net off a penalty kick.
In the second stanza, Colby increased the lead to 4-0 after he recorded his third tally for his first hat-trick of the season at the 52:58 mark.
For the game, the Panthers held a 13-12 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
In goal, junior Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) tallied eight saves and picked up his third shutout of the season. Sophomore Justin Robinson suffered the loss in goal, finishing with three saves.
The Blue and White will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17th, taking on Hampden-Sydney at home for a 4:30 pm match.
