W&L Men's Soccer Edges Southern Virginia, 1-0, in Overtime

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Junior midfielder Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) netted the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Generals to a 1-0 victory over Southern Virginia on Wednesday afternoon. 

With the victory, the Generals improve to 1-0-2 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-1-0.

After two scoreless halves, the Generals scored 6:36 into overtime. Organ used a pass from senior defender Zach Clarke (Beaumont, Texas/Monsignor Kelly Catholic) to knock in the game-winning goal for the Generals and notch the team's first victory of the year. 

Junior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) recorded his second shutout of the season, playing all 90 minutes. Knight's keeper Scott Zaring suffered the loss in goal, finishing with eight saves.

The Blue and White held an advantage in shots and corner kicks, notching a 19-3 edge in shots and an 11-2 lead in corner kicks.

W&L will be back in action on Saturday, when it hosts Catholic for a 3:00 pm contest.
