Two Generals Named to All-State Men's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Va. The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2012 All-State Men's Soccer College Division selections and two Washington and Lee athletes were honored.

Sophomore Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) garnered first team all-state accolades and sophomore Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) was named to the second team. 

A forward, Colby led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in goals (13), points (27) and game-winning goals (5), while appearing in all 18 games with eight starts. He finished the year ranked fifth in the W&L record book for goals in a season, and was also named First Team All-ODAC and academic all-district.

Civitarese started 16 games in goal, posting a 0.66 goals-against average and a 0.788 save percentage in 1504:14. A 2012 Second Team All-ODAC Selection, Civitarese's eight solo shutouts this year led the conference and he is tied for the top spot in the W&L record book for shutouts in a season. 

Sophomore forward Jalon Brown from Christopher Newport was named the Player of the Year, while Roanoke's Scott Allison earned Coach of the Year honors and first-year forward Erik Albarran from Bluefield College was chosen as the Rookie of the Year.

W&L ended the 2012 season with an 11-4-3 overall record after tying Virginia Wesleyan, 1-1, in the ODAC Tournament Semifinal match. VWC advanced to the championships on penalty kicks, 3-1.
