W&L Men's Soccer Edges Randolph-Macon, 2-1, in Overtime
LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior midfielder Alex Zelinski (Rochester Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) netted the game-winning goal 3:23 into overtime to give the Generals a 2-1 victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
R-MC (2-9-3, 2-4-1 ODAC) scored the first goal of the game with a breakaway goal by first-year forward Andrew Oakes (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) off a feed from junior midfielder Tommy Fisher (Prince William, Va./Forest Park) in the 34th minute. The Yellow Jackets entered halftime holding the 1-0 lead.
W&L (8-3-1, 5-1-1) tied the game at the 51:52 mark when sophomore forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) kicked in an unassisted goal. The Generals outshot R-MC by a margin of 12-0 in the second half, but could not tally the game-winner in regulation.
Sophomore Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) spent the entire game in net for the Blue and White, recording one goal-against. Senior goalkeeper Chris Lowe (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) collected four saves and two goals-against in 93:23 for the Yellow Jackets.
The Generals held a 20-1 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks over R-MC.
W&L returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Randolph for a 4:30 pm contest.
