W&L Men's Soccer Picked Fourth in ODAC Preseason Poll
FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released its 2012 Men's Soccer Preseason Poll and the Washington and Lee men's soccer team has been chosen to finish fourth in the conference this season.
Randolph received seven first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll on its way to tallying 115 total points. Finishing close behind, Roanoke collected 114 points and the final five first-place votes. Lynchburg was third with 95 points, while W&L (80) and Hampden-Sydney (72) rounded out the top five. Completing the list are Virginia Wesleyan (71), Eastern Mennonite (67), Guilford (51), Randolph-Macon (49), Bridgewater (45), Shenandoah (17) and Emory & Henry (16).
In 2011, the Generals finished the season 8-5-4 after advancing to the ODAC Quarterfinals and losing to Lynchburg, 1-0. They return three all-conference selections, including senior defender Basti Richter (Gauting, Germany/Darlington School), the lone First Team All-ODAC honoree from a season ago and who helped guide the defensive third to a conference-leading 0.78 goals-against average during the 2011 campaign. Eight starters from last year's squad will also be back on the field this year.
W&L kicks off its season at the Fuzzy Williams Memorial Tourney at Bethany College on Friday, August 31 when it faces Moravian for a 3:00 pm contest.
