BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Washington and Lee junior men's soccer player junior Basti Richter (Gauting, Germany/Darlington School) has been awarded 2011 VaSID College Division Men's Soccer Second Team All-State honors as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
A defender, Richter, who was also a 2011 First Team All-ODAC honoree, helped the Generals' back line produce a conference-leading 0.78 goals against average with nine shutouts.
Richter also assisted offensively by tallying two points on the season with a goal in a 3-2 W&L victory over Ferrum on September 28.
The Generals finished the 2011 season with an 8-5-4 overall record (5-2-3 ODAC), advancing to the conference quarterfinals where they lost, 1-0, to Lynchburg.
Christopher Newport claimed two of the top three accolades as senior forward Brian Lybert was named the VaSID Player of the Year and first year Jalon Brown was named the Rookie of the Year. Bryan Waggoner was chosen as the organization's Coach of the Year as he led Randolph to an 18-5 overall record and the WildCats' first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in any sport.
