W&L Men's Lacrosse Ranked 13th in Faceoff Magazine Preseason Poll

BALTIMORE, Md. – Inside Lacrosse has released its Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Division III Men's Poll and Washington and Lee is among the team's recognized in the Top 20.

The Generals rank 13th in the poll, W&L's first preseason national ranking by the publication since the 2010 season.

Defending National Champion Stevenson tops the poll and is followed by RIT, Cortland, Salisbury and Tufts.  Fellow ODAC members Lynchburg (No. 9) and Roanoke (No. 11) are also listed in the poll.

Washington and Lee returns six starters from last season's team that finished 16-5 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  Among the top returnees are senior midfielders Joe Wood (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) and Jared Mitchell (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City), junior attackman Cameron Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. / Culver Academy), junior midfielder Garrett Paglia (Forest Hill, Md. / Gilman), junior long-stick midfielder Noah Lessing (Babylon, N.Y. / Babylon) and junior goalkeeper Warren Berenis (Ocoee, Fla. / Lake Highland Prep).

Wood finished third on the team in scoring with 34 points (23 G, 11 A), while Mitchell was a First Team All-ODAC honoree after winning 190-of-309 (.615) faceoffs.  He also scored two goals and assisted on two others.

Dabir earned Second Team All-ODAC laurels after leading the team in scoring with 61 points on 43 goals and 18 assists.  He already claims 106 career points after just two seasons of play.

Paglia was a Second Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-America selection after totaling 25 goals and seven assists, while Lessing was a Third Team All-ODAC honoree after posting 58 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers, one goal and one assist in helping the Generals rank 13th-nationally in scoring defense (7.0 gpg).

Berenis has started for most of his first two seasons and led the ODAC with a 7.34 goals-against average last season.  He also claimed a .573 save percentage with the most saves (185) by a W&L goalkeeper since 2006.

The Generals open the 2014 campaign on February 11 when they host Ferrum for a 5:00 pm contest.
