VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team used a 6-goal run across the first and second quarters to post a 16-11 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field.

The Marlins (4-4, 1-2) jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening 7:29 of the game, but the Generals (9-2, 3-1) battled back to knot the game at 3-3 following a pair of goals 11 seconds apart coming from junior midfielder Jack Reuter (Rockville Center, N.Y./Chaminade) and senior midfielder Cooper Brown (Baltimore, Md./Gilman).  VWC assumed a 4-3 lead on a goal by Devynn Kelly at the 4:10 mark of the first quarter, but the Generals then used their 6-goal surge to post a 9-4 lead with 5:15 left in the second quarter.

Senior midfielder Luke Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) got the run started with a goal off an assist from sophomore attackman Cameron Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) with 3:38 left in the first quarter.  Junior midfielder Tim Werner (Westfield, N.J./St. Anne's-Belfield) then scored off a feed from senior attackman Mac Means 1:33 later to give W&L its first lead of the game at 5-4.

Heinsohn continued the scoring streak with an unassisted goal just 1:02 into the second quarter and sophomore attackman Tyler Goldman (New York, N.Y./Loomis Chaffee) extended to a 7-4 lead when he found rope with 13:32 left in the second quarter.  Reuter and Means ended the run with unassisted tallies at 6:22 and 5:15.  Nick Pappas stopped the run with a goal at the 3:48 mark and the Generals carried a 9-5 lead into the halftime break.

Pappas scored again just 1:15 into the third period to make it 9-6, but the Generals used a 3-goal run, including two tallies from Dabir, to extend their lead to 12-6 with 5:31 left in the third quarter.

W&L scored just 49 seconds into the fourth quarter for a 14-7 lead, but the Marlins then went on a 4-goal run featuring two scores from Mikey Connors, to slice the Generals margin to just three goals (14-11) with 7:33 remaining in the game.  However, W&L tacked on two more scores to walk away with the 5-goal win.

Means and Dabir led the Generals with two goals and two assists each.  Heinsohn posted two goals and one helper, while Paglia, Goldman, Reuter and Werner each added two goals.  Sophomore Warren Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) played all 60 minutes in goal, stopping 11 shots.
