Hampden-Sydney Knocks Off W&L Lacrosse, 13-10

LEXINGTON, Va. – Hampden-Sydney jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in claiming a 13-10 victory over 13th-ranked Washington and Lee in ODAC men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday evening at Wilson Field.

Sophomore attackman Micah Keller (Richmond, Va./Christchurch) scored a pair of goals 52 seconds apart to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead at the 7:23 mark of the first period.  Sophomore attackman Ben Clarke (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) added another goal at the 5:29 mark for a 3-0 lead.

The Generals (8-3, 2-1) got on the board with 13 seconds remaining in the opening period on a goal by junior midfielder Mark Wachtmeister (Wellesley, Mass./Belmont Hill) off a feed from first-year midfielder Cooper Brown (Baltimore, Md./Gilman), but the Tigers scored three of the next four goals, including another by Keller, to assume a 7-2 lead with 4:26 left in the half.  W&L then received goals from junior midfielder Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and senior midfielder Logan Bartlett (Summit, N.J./Pingry School) to close to within 7-4 at the break.

W&L would stage a late rally, scoring three goals in the final 3:51, but could get no closer than the final margin.

The Generals held a 36-26 advantage in shots and a 32-30 edge in ground balls.  However, W&L was just 11-of-17 on clears and committed 19 turnovers.
