NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2017 Srixon/Cleveland Golf Division III All-America Scholars and PING Division III All-Region golf teams on Tuesday evening and the Generals were well represented.
Senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) was one of 44 individuals named to the All-America Scholar squad, while first-years Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) and Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) were among 26 golfers named to the All-South Region team.
Hurst was named to the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar team for the second straight year. The history major has enjoyed one of the finest golfing careers in school history. He is a four-time All-ODAC honoree and a two-time ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection. A 2016 PING Honorable Mention All-American and the 2014 ODAC Rookie of the Year, he finished fourth at last year's NCAA Championship with a +10 score of 72-72-78-75—297. Hurst currently owns a 75.4 scoring average after Tuesday's opening round at the 2017 NCAA Championship event.
Peccie was a first team All-ODAC pick this spring. He won the Callaway Gardens Invitational in March and placed in a tie for 27th at the ODAC Championship with a three-day total of 74-79-87—240 (+24). After Tuesday's first round at NCAA's, he claims a 75.7 stroke average across 14 rounds played.
Quinilty also garnered First Team All-ODAC laurels for his rookie campaign, adding the ODAC Rookie of the Year Award as well. He tied for fifth at the Jekyll Island Collegiate this spring and finished 17th at the ODAC Championship with a 77-76-82—235 (+19). Quinilty owns a 75.4 stroke average across 15 rounds, including Tuesday's opening round at the NCAA Championship.
Washington and Lee finished day one at NCAA's tied for eighth-place out of 42 teams with a +12 score of 300. The Generals finished in a tie for third at the 2016 NCAA Championship.
