PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – First-year Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) fired a -2 round of 70 on Tuesday to tie for individual medalist honors, as the 24th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team placed sixth out of 18 teams at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate hosted by Berry College at the Mountain View Course.
Peccie sat in 20th-place after shooting a 75 (+3) in the opening round of the tournament. He tied for the low round of the tournament with his second round score, finishing at 75-70—145 (+1). He shared top honors with David Rabil of Christopher Newport, who also shot 75-70—145 (+1).
In the team standings, 13th-ranked Emory headed the field with a 297-299-596 (+20) that eclipsed the second-place team, 11th-ranked LaGrange (299-298—597, +21), by just one stroke. Tenth-ranked Oglethorpe was third with a 303-297—600 (+25) and was followed by 25th-ranked Sewanee (300-301—601, +25), top-ranked Huntingdon (296-305—601, +25) and W&L (301-302—603, +27).
Junior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) finished in a tie for 10th out of the 102 golfers at the event with a +4 score of 73-75—148. Senior Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) posted a 75-80—155 (+11) to tie for 43rd, while senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) notched a 78-79—157 (+13) to tie for 53rd.
First-year Austin Harrill (Hickory, N.C. / Hickory) rounded out the Generals in the field with a +20 score of 86-78—164 that tied for 80th overall.
Washington and Lee next competes in the Jekyll Island Invitational held at the Pine Lakes Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga., on March 17-19.
