PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The 24th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team opened its spring campaign on Monday with the first day of the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate hosted by Berry College at the Mountain View Course. After the first round, W&L is tied for fifth out of the 18 teams with a +13 score of 301.
Top-ranked Huntingdon College leads a field that includes 12 of the Top 25 Division III teams with a 296 (+8) that ranks one stroke ahead of 13th-ranked Emory, who is in second (297). Eleventh-ranked LaGrange is in third (299) and is followed by 25th-ranked Sewanee (300), Christopher Newport (301) and W&L.
Emory's Connor Yakubov is the individual leader after the first round, carding a -2 round of 70.
Washington and Lee is led by junior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School), who is tied for seventh out of 102 golfers with a +1 score of 73.
Senior Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) and first-year Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) both shot 75 (+3) and are tied for 20th. Senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) fired a 78 (+6) and is tied for 41st, while first-year Austin Harrill (Hickory, N.C. / Hickory) carded an 86 (+14) that is tied for 92nd.
Washington and Lee will continue play in the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning.
