MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team carded an opening round score of 307 and leads the Rhodes College Mirimichi Invitational after the first day of competition from the Mirimichi Golf Club on Sunday.
The Generals lead the 10-team field by one stroke over California Lutheran. Spalding and Rhodes are both tied for third with 312.
Mississippi College's Hunter Gauntlett leads the individual competitors after posting a +1 score of 73. W&L first-year Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) is tied for third overall with a 75, while junior Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn. / McCallie School) is tied for seventh, one stroke behind (76) Hurst.
First-year Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) and sophomore Taylor Stagg (Midlothian, Va. / James River) are both tied for 13th after posting a 78, and first-year Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) rounded out the Generals in the field with an 84 that ranks in a tie for 39th.
Action continues on Monday with the second and final round from Mirimichi.
