CAPE CHARLES, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship, which finished play at the Bay Creek Resort on Tuesday afternoon.
The Generals carded a three-day score of 322-321-315—958 and finished 44 strokes behind team champion Guilford College (305-320-289—914). Randolph-Macon finished second with a 316-324-297—937 and Hampden-Sydney placed third with a 320-307-323—950. Lynchburg was fifth (316-337-314—967), followed by Bridgewater (332-323-318—973), Shenandoah (343-336-323—1002), Eastern Mennonite (354-326-330—1010), Virginia Wesleyan (347-341-337—1025) and Roanoke (348-349-329—1026).
Guilford's Noah Ratner finished as the individual champion after carding a +8 score of 73-81-70—224.
Sophomore Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn. / McCallie School) was the top W&L finisher, carding an 82-73-78—233 to finish sixth out of 49 individuals and earn all-tournament honors.
Junior Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C. / Bishop McGuinness) tied for 24th with an 81-84-82—247 and first-year Festus Turlington (Clinton, N.C. / Clinton) notched an 87-89-86—262 to finish 45th overall.
The Generals have now completed their 2012-13 campaign. Guilford will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship held May 14-17 in Destin, Fla.
